Amana® Brand Smart Thermostat Over-The-Air Update 3.5.4

by HVAC Distributors

Amana® has announced the release of Over-The-Air (OTA) software update 3.5.4 for the Amana® Brand smart thermostat (ATST-CWE-BL-A). This software update has been pushed out to all referenced Wi-Fi and cloud-connected thermostats on October 7, 2024.

From Amana:

We are pleased to announce the release of Over-The-Air (OTA) software update 3.5.4 for Amana® Brand smart thermostat (ATST-CWE-BL-A). This software update will be pushed out to all referenced Wi-Fi and cloud-connected thermostats on October 7, 2024.

This wide-ranging OTA update includes several important improvements compared to the previous version:

  • Compatibility for New Unitary Systems with R-32 Refrigerant
  • New Residential Heat Pump Settings
  • Indoor Humidity Added to Home Screen

Compatibility for unitary systems using new refrigerant R-32

  • This OTA update should be downloaded to the thermostat either during installation and commissioning or prior to installing with R-32 equipment. Instructions for downloading software updates prior to installation (in a shop or warehouse, for example) can be found here: OTA Update Instructions.
  • Thermostats in inventory and/or shipped in the coming months will not have the latest software, so it is strongly recommended that the OTA update is completed to version 3.5 or later to ensure the final customer gets the best experience of their system once installation is complete.
  • This OTA update includes support for compatible R-32 communicating unitary equipment (Heat Pumps, Air conditioners, Air Handlers, Evaporator Coils, and Gas Furnaces that either include the new Refrigerant Detection System (RDS) or that have the Furnace Integration Kit for R-32 Systems). New equipment model numbers will be supported through this release and will populate automatically when the equipment is discovered by the thermostat. Support also includes new error codes and definitions associated with mandatory A2L refrigerant requirements.
  • Homeowners will only see the standard system error message if a R-32 refrigerant related issue is detected.
  • Dealers will find the error history in the dealer-only menu of the thermostat and Daikin ONE Cloud Services, providing the dealer with specific error code information as shown in the table below.

  • An update to the required system test and a new optional charge verification test for R-32 with confirmation of test status and satisfactory completion. When concluded, the charge verification test will also provide a calculated sub-cool value.

New Residential Heat Pump Settings

  • The new factory default for heat pump lockout temperature will change from +15◦F to -5◦F. This will allow heat pumps to run longer before switching to auxiliary heating and is the newly recommended lockout temperature. Note that for this change to take effect, the installing technician must connect the thermostat to Wi-Fi where the OTA will be downloaded, then back out of the commissioning menu and choose “Setup Options” and choose “Factory Reset,” then continue with the commissioning process. Alternatively, heat pump lockout temperature can be changed manually by the dealer at any time by opening the dealer menu and choosing Step 3: Equipment > Heat Pump > Heat Pump Settings. Previously installed thermostats that receive this update will not be affected unless a “Factory Reset” is performed.
  • A new “Powerful Heating” mode for heat pumps is available under Preferences > Cool/Heat in the dealer menu. “Powerful Heating” enables the system to increase the supply air temperature when demand is low to satisfy user comfort. This mode decreases indoor CFM and may increase compressor speed. “Powerful Heating” mode is “OFF” by default.

Indoor Humidity Added to Home Screen

The indoor humidity reading has been added to the home screen as shown in the image to the right.
