Amana Introduces 13.4 SEER2 R32 Condensers

Amana is introducing new 13.4 SEER2 R32 condensers to replace the existing R410A condensers. The old ASXN3 transitions to the new ALXS3N. The old ASXH3 transitions to the new ALXS3B.

Background:

• This is part of the transition to A2L refrigerants.
• Amana is getting a head start on the transition so that when the installation cutoff happens at the end of 2025, it is not a problem for dealers.

Changes to Note:

• There is a one-to-one model change, as seen at right.
• The new units use R32 and will require R32 coils and air handlers to match.
• When matched to a non-UL2-40 furnace, Furnace Integration Kit 0230K00044 (.489914) is required.
• R32 equipment uses significantly less charge than R410A.
• The condensers have been upgraded in some aspects to conform to UL Standard 60335-2-40 (aka UL2-40).
  • Contactors are enclosed, with lug connections.
  • The grille top now complies.
• In some cases the units are smaller. See Appendix Two.
• 

What’s Staying the Same:

• The warranty is 10-Year Parts (registration required).
• Key components are the same on both models:
  • 1-speed PSC condenser fan motor.
  • Factory-installed filter drier
  • Factory-installed high-pressure switch
• The ALXS3B also keeps the:
  • High efficiency scroll compressor
• High density foam compressor sound blanket
• Most related items are the same.
  • Only the TXVs are different.
• Hard start kits are still an addon in some sizes. See Appendix Three.
• Sales are still limited to the DOE North Region.
  • Allowed in PA, NY, WV.
  • Not allowed in DE, MD, VA.

Additional Items to Note:

• DO NOT mix R32 and R410A equipment to make a system.
• R32 equipment uses a much smaller charge. Remember to check the IOM.
• Sign up to receive your R32 certification! It is not required, but is best practice.
• Have the proper tools to work with R32 and R454B equipment.

Transition

HVAC Distributors will continue to stock the old models, then transition to the new models when inventory is depleted.
