Amana Introduces AMST R32 Air Handler

Amana is introducing the R32 version of the AMST air handler to go with the new R32 outdoor units.

Background:

• The AMST is the main air handler for single-stage outdoor units.
• Daikin is introducing the new R32 version to go with the introduction of the matching R32 outdoor units.

Changes to Note:

• These models use R32 and must be matched to R32 outdoor units. Refer to the table on the right.
•  The R32 version has the refrigerant leak detection system built in. There is no need for added installation.
• The TXV is for R32.
• Two sizes have been removed.
  • The two eliminated sizes are covered by better sizes in the matches. Daikin left them out of the transition.

What’s Staying the Same:

• Models are UL2-40 compliant, and take the same electric heat kits as the UL2-40 compliant R410A version (the “BA” rev).
• Dimensions of the new models are the same as the the old models.
• The blower motor will remain the 9-tap multi-speed ECM motor.

Additional Items to Note:

• DO NOT mix R32 and R410A equipment to make a system.
• R32 equipment uses a much smaller charge. Remember to check the IOM.
• Sign up to receive your R32 certification! It is not required, but is best practice.
• Have the proper tools to work with R32 and R454B equipment.

Transition

HVAC Distributors will continue to stock the old models, then transition to the new models when inventory is depleted.
