Amana Introduces R32 15.2 SEER2 Condensers and Heat Pumps

Amana is introducing the R32 15.2 SEER2 ALXS5B Condenser and ALZS5B Heat Pump as part of the transition to A2L refrigerants. These will replace the ASXH5 Condenser and ASZH5 Heat Pump.

Background:

• Amana is getting a head start on the transition so that when the installation cutoff happens at the end of 2025, it is not a problem for dealers.

What’s Staying the Same:

• It is an exact one-to-one model replacement. See the table shown on the right. Model efficiency remains the same, but will now use R32.
• The warranty is unchanged.
• The 5 ton size continues to use a two-stage compressor. The 1H/1C thermostat works with the smaller sizes and won’t work with the 5 ton.

Changes to Note:

• New units use R32 refrigerant.
• These units will not work with R410A coils or air handlers.
• The new condensers and heat pumps are getting new model numbers. See Appendix Two for the Nomenclature Chart.

Additional Items to Note:

• DO NOT mix R32 and R410A equipment to make a system.
• R32 equipment uses a much smaller charge. Remember to check the IOM.
• Sign up to receive your R32 certification! It is not required, but is best practice.
• Have the proper tools to work with R32 and R454B equipment.

Transition

HVAC Distributors will continue to stock the old models, then transition to the new models when inventory is depleted.
