AVXC20 Air Conditioner and AVZC20 Heat Pump Inverter Software Enhancements and 5-Ton Heat Pump Capacity Increase

AVXC20 Air Conditioner and AVZC20 Heat Pump Inverter Software Enhancements and 5-Ton Heat Pump Capacity Increase

by HVAC Distributors

Goodman has announced software enhancements for the AVXC20 and AVZC20, 20+ SEER air conditioner and heat pump inverter family (Bulletin A-PC-SP-1994).

From Goodman:

Compared to the current models, these software enhancements provide improved dehumidification, decreased start-up defrost time, and increased circulation for basement applications. In addition, the cooling capacity at high ambient conditions has been increased for the 5-ton heat pump model (AVZC200601), compared to the current model.

Enhancements:

  • Improved dehumidification compared to the current model – The installation and operations manual provides instructions for changing dehumidification settings for additional dehumidification control.
  • Start-up defrost – When the defrost operation takes more than 8 minutes, the next defrost interval will be half the time. The system will spend less time in defrost mode when secondary heating is activated.
  • In applications with unusually cold return temperatures, such as basements, the system will increase CFM automatically if coil temperature is low. New airflow trim settings have been added to the “Cool-On” and “Cool-Low” settings.

There are no mechanical changes to equipment for 2-to-5 ton air conditioner and 2-to-4 ton heat pump systems. The PCB is the only new part. Note the 5-ton heat pump will have a refrigeration loop on the main PCB to keep the components cool. Factory charge amount of the previous model (AVZC200601AE) will be different than the new 5-ton heat pump model (AVZC200601BA).

See the charts below for minor revision model numbers that include the new PCB with software enhancements.

The existing inventory of models with the current PCB will be shipped to depletion prior to deployment of the models with the new PCB. Once inventory of the existing models with the current PCB is depleted, automatic substitutions to the new models with the new PCB will apply.

See the chart below for a major revision model number for the 5-ton heat pump model that includes the new PCB with software enhancements and capacity improvement.

The existing inventory of AVZC20601AE will be shipped to depletion prior to deployment of the AVZC200601BA. Once inventory of the existing models of AVZC200601AE is depleted, automatic substitutions to AVZC200601BA will apply.

There are no system match changes due to these new product enhancements (same outdoor units will match with same indoor units). All ratings remain the same for 2-to-5 ton air conditioner and 2-to-4 ton heat pump systems. Only the 5-ton heat pump ratings have changed as shown in the AVZC200601BA Design Information table below. New ratings require new AHRI Certified Reference Numbers. Always check the AHRI Directory or selection tools for AHRI certified matchups.
