Daikin Rerates 96% Single-Stage Furnace to 97% AFUE

Daikin Rerates 96% Single-Stage Furnace to 97% AFUE

by HVAC Distributors

Daikin has rerated select 96% single-stage furnaces from 96% AFUE to 97% AFUE.  This is effective immediately.

Background:

  • Furnaces that have an AFUE of 97% or higher qualify for a federal 25C tax credit of 30%, up to $600.
  • Until recently only the Amana and Goodman 97% modulating variable speed furnaces (AMVM97 and GMVM97) met that criterion.
  • Daikin undertook a project to re-test their 96% multi-speed, single-stage furnaces, the AR9S96 and GR9S96.
  • Now, some are rerated to 97% AFUE or higher and are therefore eligible for the tax credit.

Qualifying Items:

  • Some, but not all sizes are rerated. The table at right shows the  qualifying items.
  • There is no change to the product, model number, or price.
  • Dealers who offer even a base level condenser with one of these furnaces can include tax credit eligibility as part of the offer.
  • This applies to all regions. There is no regionality to furnace tax credits.

Additional Resources:

  • Homeowners can verify the claim on the ENERGY STAR website.
  • A dealer who wants to provide a certificate as part of the offer can retrieve it from the AHRI Directory.
