Goodman GTST Connected Thermostat Over-The-Air Update 3.5.4

by HVAC Distributors

Goodman has announced the release of Over-The-Air (OTA) software update 3.5.4 for the Goodman GTST-CW-WH-A connected thermostat. This software update was pushed out to all referenced Wi-Fi and cloud-connected thermostats on October 21, 2024.

From Goodman:

We are pleased to announce the release of Over-The-Air (OTA) software update 3.5.4 for Goodman GTST-CW-WH-A connected thermostat. This software update will be pushed out to all referenced Wi-Fi and cloud-connected thermostats on October 21, 2024.

This OTA update includes two important improvements compared to the previous version:

  • Compatibility for New Unitary Systems with R-32 Refrigerant
  • New Residential Heat Pump Settings

Compatibility for New Unitary Systems with R-32 Refrigerant

  • This OTA update should be downloaded to the thermostat either during installation and commissioning or prior to installing equipment with R-32 refrigerant. To receive the latest OTA software update, the installing technician must connect the thermostat to Wi-Fi and complete the following steps:
    1. Press and hold both the “MODE” and “DOWN” buttons for 5 seconds until all icons are displayed on the screen
    2. Press the “MODE” button until the “VERSION…” text appears at the top of the screen
    3. Press and hold the “FAN” button for 2 seconds to search for an OTA software update.
  • Thermostats in inventory and/or shipped in the coming months will not have the latest software, so it is strongly recommended that the OTA update is completed to version 3.5 or later to ensure the final customer gets the best experience of their system once installation is complete.
  • This OTA update includes support for compatible R-32 communicating unitary equipment (Heat Pumps, Air conditioners, Air Handlers, Evaporator Coils, and Gas Furnaces that either include the new Refrigerant Detection System (RDS) or that have the Furnace Integration Kit for R-32 Systems). New equipment model numbers will be supported through this release and will populate automatically when the equipment is discovered by the thermostat. Support also includes new error codes and definitions associated with mandatory A2L refrigerant requirements.
  • Homeowners will see the error code displayed on the thermostat if a R-32 refrigerant related issue is detected but no description will be provided. The last six error codes can also be accessed from the indoor unit PCB.
  • An update to the required system test and a new optional charge verification test for R-32 with confirmation of test status and satisfactory completion. When concluded, the charge verification test will also provide a calculated sub-cool value within the Goodman Installer app.

New Residential Heat Pump Settings

  • The new factory default for heat pump lockout temperature will change from +15◦F to -5◦F. This will allow heat pumps to run longer before switching to auxiliary heating and is the newly recommended lockout temperature. Note that for this change to take effect, the installing technician must connect the thermostat to Wi-Fi and complete the following steps:
    1. Press and hold both the “MODE” and “DOWN” buttons for 5 seconds until all icons are displayed on the screen
    2. Press the “MODE: button until the “VERSION…” text appears at the top of the screen
    3. Press and hold the “FAN” button for 2 seconds to search for an OTA software version and update to the latest version
  • After the latest OTA version update has finished uploading, as explained above, complete the following steps:
    1. Press and hold the “MODE” and “DOWN” buttons for 5 seconds until all icons are displayed
    2. Press the “MODE” button until the “RESET…” text appears at the top of the screen
    3. Press the “DOWN” button until the “FACTORY RESET…” text appears
    4. Press and hold the “FAN” button for 2 seconds to perform a factory reset
    5. Reconnect to Wi-Fi and continue with the commissioning process

Important Note: Previously installed thermostats that receive this update will not have the new heat pump lockout temperature unless a “Factory Reset” is performed (or lockout temperature is manually changed).

  • A new “Powerful Heating” mode for heat pumps with R-32 refrigerant is available in the Goodman Installer app. “Powerful Heating” enables the system to increase the supply air temperature when demand is low to satisfy user comfort. This feature decreases indoor CFM and may increase compressor speed. “Powerful Heating” mode is “OFF” by default. To turn on “Powerful Heating” in the Goodman Installer app, go to Tasks > Edit thermostat Settings > Setup > Preferences > Cool/Heat > Powerful Heating.
