Goodman Introduces 13.4 SEER2 R32 Condensers

by HVAC Distributors

Goodman is introducing new 13.4 SEER2 R32 condensers to replace the existing R410A condensers. The old GSXN3 transitions to the new GLXS3B.

Background:

    • This is part of the transition to A2L refrigerants.
    • Goodman is getting a head start on the transition so that when the installation cutoff happens at the end of 2025, it is not a problem for dealers.

Changes to Note:

  • There is a one-to-one model change, as seen at right.
  • The new units use R32 and will require R32 coils and air handlers to match.
  • When matched to a non-UL2-40 furnace, Furnace Integration Kit 0230K00044 (.489914) is required.
  • R32 equipment uses significantly less charge than R410A.
  • They have been upgraded in some aspects to conform to UL Standard 60335-2-40 (aka UL2-40).
    • Contactors are now enclosed, with lug connections.
    • The grille top is now compliant.
  • In some cases the units are smaller. See Appendix Two.
  • The model nomenclature is changing to help distinguish the R32 units from the R410A units. See Appendix One.

What’s Staying the Same:

  • The warranty is still 10-Year Parts (registration required).
  •  Key components are the same on both models:
    • 1-speed PSC condenser fan motor.
    • Factory-installed filter drier
    •  Factory-installed high-pressure switch
  • Most related items are the same.
    • Only the TXVs are different.
    • Hard start kits are still an addon in some sizes. See Appendix Three.
  • Sales are still limited to the DOE North Region.
    • Allowed in PA, NY, WV.
    • Not allowed in DE, MD, VA.

Additional Items to Note:
