Goodman Launches R32 15.2 SEER2 Condensers and Heat Pumps

Goodman is launching the R32 15.2 SEER GLXS5B Condenser and GLZS5B Heat Pump as part of the transition to A2L refrigerants. These will replace the GSXH5 Condenser and GSZH5 Heat Pump.

Background:

• Goodman is getting a head start on the transition so that when the installation cutoff happens at the end of 2025, it is not a problem for dealers.

What’s Staying the Same:

• There is an exact one-to-one model replacement.
• The5 ton size continues to use a two stage compressor. The 1H/1C stat that works with the smaller sizes will not work with the 5 ton size.

Changes to Note:

• New units will use R32 refrigerant.
• The new units will not work with R410A coils or air handlers.
• The new condensers and heat pumps are receiving new model numbers, as shown in the table on the right and Appendix One for the Nomenclature Chart.

Additional Items to Note:

• DO NOT mix R32 and R410A equipment to make a system.
• R32 equipment uses a much smaller charge. Remember to check the IOM.
• Sign up to receive your R32 certification! It is not required, but is best practice.
• Have the proper tools to work with R32 and R454B equipment.

Transition

HVAC Distributors will continue to stock the old models, then transition to the new models when inventory is depleted.
