Amana Introduces AWST R32 Air Handler

Amana is introducing the R32 version of the AWST air handler to go with the new R32 outdoor units.

Background:

• The AWST is the wall-mount air handler, used mainly in multi-family new construction.
• Amana is introducing the R32 version to go with the introduction of the matching R32 outdoor units.

Changes to Note:

• These models use R32 and must be matched to R32 outdoor units. Refer to the table on the right.
• The AWST has the refrigerant leak detection system built in, so there is no need for added installation.
• The TXV is for R32.

What’s Staying the Same:

• Models are UL2-40 compliant, and have factory-installed electric heat kits.
• Dimensions of the new models are the same as the dimensions on the old models.
• The blower motor will stay a multi-speed ECM motor.

Additional Items to Note:

• DO NOT mix R32 and R410A equipment to make a system.
• R32 equipment uses a much smaller charge. Remember to check the IOM.
• Sign up to receive your R32 certification! It is not required, but is best practice.
• Have the proper tools to work with R32 and R454B equipment.

Transition

HVAC Distributors will continue to stock the old models, then transition to the new models when inventory is depleted.
