Amana/Goodman 80% Furnace Flue Connector Fit-Up Inaccuracy

Amana/Goodman 80% Furnace Flue Connector Fit-Up Inaccuracy

by HVAC Distributors

Goodman has released Service Bulletin SF-076 concerning the positioning of the flue connector fit-up on an on 80% furnaces produced at the new Daikin Texas Technology Park.

Please note: The positioning of the flue fit-up connector does not affect the safety or performance.

Beginning January 2018, the 80% furnace production began transitioning to our new factory at the DTTP (Daikin Texas Technology Park). In conjunction with this transition, enhanced manufacturing processes and tooling changes were implemented.

As a result of these changes, we have recently found that the mounting brackets securing the heat exchanger to the wrapper were positioned further forward in the cabinet than intended on these DTTP produced furnaces. This may affect the fit-up of the flue connector as shown in the picture on the right. Some of the 80% furnaces, as listed in the table below, with serial number prefixes of 1801xxxxxx and 1802xxxxxx are affected.

For upflow or horizontal right installations: In some cases it will be necessary to lift the top panel slightly by pushing upwards on the bottom side of the top panel to allow the flue connector to slip onto the top of the induced draft blower. Additionally, it may be helpful to loosen or remove the two screws securing the left side of the top panel to improve access. After positioning the flue connector these screws should be secured as normal.

Goodman Service Bulletin SF-076 Horizontal left installations

For horizontal left installations: These applications generally require the chimneytransition bottom kit part # 0270F01119 orservice part # 4053501S. In most cases no additional trimmingof the horizontal flue cutout will be required. However, ifneeded the opening may be trimmed towards the front of thefurnace to provide adequate clearances.

Some models also state for horizontal installations to install a #8 x 5/8 screw through the center of the top panel (hole provided) into the flange of the partition panel. This hole will need to be moved ¼” towards the front of the furnace to avoid missing the partition panel. A self-tapping screw may be used.

Please note this does not affect the furnace safety or performance.
