ComfortBridge™ Furnace Firmware Update for Dual Fuel Applications

ComfortBridge™ Furnace Firmware Update for Dual Fuel Applications

by HVAC Distributors

Goodman has released Service Bulletin SR – 084 regarding ComfortBridge furnaces in dual fuel applications not locking out compressor operation when the outdoor operation is below 0°F.

From Goodman:

80% and 90% ComfortBridge furnaces when matched with communicating heat pumps in a dual fuel application will not lockout the compressor if the outdoor temperature is below 0°F. The board firmware converts the negative temperatures received from the outdoor sensor to a value above zero resulting in the compressor not shutting down at the selected lockout temperature. We have corrected the firmware issue and have made available an update via the CoolCloud HVAC™ App.

The CoolCloudHVAC App can be downloaded from the Google Play Store (Android Phones) or Apple App Store (iOS Phones). One of the features of the CoolCloud HVAC App is the ability to update firmware and shared data via OTA (over the air) updates. Note: Make sure you have a good cell signal or strong Wi-Fi signal when opening the CoolCloud HVAC App. Once you open the App, it will download the latest firmware in the background. Once you have a Bluetooth connection to the furnace, the App will prompt you that an update is available. Click update and the transfer will take place over Bluetooth. Please be patient as this could take up to 10 minutes.

This firmware update is only for installs that contain a Communicating Heat Pump, a ComfortBridge furnace, and are located in an area where outdoor temperature may drop below 0°F.

Goodman will provide labor at the servicer’s Class “A” labor rate for those dual fuel applications that require this patch to correct the dual fuel sensor issue. The labor rate will only apply for units installed before April 1, 2019. For all other units the update is accomplished during initial system startup using the CoolCloud HVAC App. In these cases, the App will provide the updated firmware through the OTA App download.

Claims must be filed on Warranty Express as an Authorization type claim, using Authorization Code number 8796. The claim for the labor should be filed using the Dealer’s account number.

Please consult the Warranty Department if you need assistance with this process. The claim will be paid upon review by the Warranty Department. Warranty Claims will be approved for equipment that is still covered under the terms of Standard Warranty. All claims for this project must be submitted by December 31, 2020.
