Daikin Aurora Series Single Zone SEER2 Update

Daikin is updating the Aurora Series Single Zone mini-split heat pump to meet SEER2 requirements.Mini Split 9,000 BTU Daikin Aurora 20 SEER Cold Climate System, RXL09QMVJU, FTX09NMVJU

The new Aurora single zone systems consist of the same configurations for cold climate applications:

Of the three indoor unit options (wall mount, medium static concealed mount, and floor mount), the wall mount units are new. All the outdoor units are new.

The New Outdoor Units

  • The new outdoor units come in the same size spread as the old ones.
  • They have the same top-notch cold-climate performance that the Aurora series is known for.
  • Depending on the indoor unit, they may be backward compatible. Refer to the specific system notes below.
  • They now come with Blue-Fin coating on the heat exchanger coil for added corrosion resistance and lower maintenance.
  • They still come with a 12 Year Parts Limited Warranty and the same extended labor warranty and unit replacement warranty are available.
  • The new models comply with the UL 60335 2-40 safety standard, which goes into effect January 1, 2024.

Daikin Aurora - New Outdoor

The New Wall-Mount Indoor Units

  • These come in the same size spread as the old units (9, 12, 15, 18,24)
  • The control connection ports are the same on new and old, so control options are the same.

Aurora Single Zone Wall Mount System

  • There are NEW indoor units for the wall-mount option.
  • At this time the new indoor unit is only compatible with the new outdoor unit and the old indoor unit is only compatible with the old outdoor unit.
  • Daikin is doing an evaluation on rating the new outdoor unit with the old indoor unit, but at this time they are not AHRI rated, and therefore not compatible.
  • The control connection ports are the same on new and old, so control options are the same.

Aurora Single Zone Medium Static Concealed Mount System

  • These indoor units are the FDMQ units (already introduced) that are also used in the SEER2-rated FDMQ series and in the SEER2-rated multi-zone systems.
  • The old FDMQ units are not compatible with these new Aurora single zone outdoor units.
  • The control connection ports are the same on new and old, so control options are the same.

Daikin Aurora - New Concealed Mount

Aurora Single Zone Floor Mount System

  • These indoor units are the “neutered” units because new and old are completely interchangeable.
  • This means that when mated to the old outdoor units they will have a SEER rating, and when mated to a new outdoor unit they will have a SEER2 rating.

Transition

HVAC Distributors will continue to stock the old models, then transition to the new models when inventory is depleted.
